In 2012 the QCTO gazetted CHEF as a registered TRADE in South Africa, which requires a 3 year learning period and a TRADE TEST.

Also in 2012 the South African Chefs Association (SACA) was awarded Professional Body Status for registered tradesmen known as Chefs.

The new qualification comprises KNOWLEDGE & PRACTICAL MODULES offered by the Training Provider, and WORKPLACE EXPERIENCE MODULES completed in industry. Over the 3 year training period, 18 months will be spent in industry, and 18 months with the Training Provider.
PLEASE NOTE: All current chef qualifications in South Africa will be phased out and replaced by this 3 year learning period and a trade test.
Chef Shaun has been instrumental in the development of this new qualification and as the nominated CEP representative helped put together the Technical Working Group developing the Trade Test specifications under the National Artisan Moderation Body (NAMB).
